As a Christian, you have a simple but amazing calling—to know Jesus and make Him known. To put it another way …

You are to shine for Jesus and share Him with the world.

This is what God chose you for, called you to—and equips you to do.

How? Through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, He gathered about 120 of His followers and told them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised.

Then Jesus said to his disciples …

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Don’t miss this biblical promise: The Holy Spirit empowers you to shine for Jesus and share Him with the world.

In and of ourselves, we cannot shine because we just don’t have any light outside of the Lord. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” And in Acts 1:8 Jesus promises that when He comes into your life, you become the light of the world through His Spirit.

When the Holy Spirit lives in your human spirit, His light fills your life.

That means you have supernatural power to love and live like you never could before. You’re indwelled by the Spirit of God—the same Spirit through whom Jesus lived a life of perfect righteousness.

But the Holy Spirit’s power doesn’t just fill you, He propels you to share Christ with others—to be a witness.

Shining the light of Jesus by your daily living and actions is wonderful. But the gospel requires words. Romans 10:14 puts it this way:

How then are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him whom they have not heard?

You’re to be a witness through your life and through your lips. Both are vitally important. If your walk doesn’t match your talk, you become a hypocrite who says one thing and does another. Conversely, if you have a godly life but you never tell anybody about the One who fills you with His love, onlookers will have difficulty understanding where the power comes from.

Your calling and mine is clear—we must shine and share.

To do that, you need to know the story. Every Christian should know the gospel story and be able to share it with another person. I know; it can be hard to overcome our fears, shyness, and hesitations.

That’s why God gives you power through His Holy Spirit.

You’re not in this alone! As a believer in Jesus, the Holy Spirit indwells you to empower you to fulfill your Kingdom purpose—to shine for Jesus and share Him with the world.

So, my question to you is … are you shining, and are you sharing?

RealNewsWeb_SPRING22_Q&A
Q&A with Pastor Jeff

Q: When does a person receive the Holy Spirit, and what does that mean?

A: The first part of that question is simple. You receive the Holy Spirit the moment you repent and believe on Jesus. The indwelling Holy Spirit’s presence is the mark of a Christian. Now what does it mean to receive the Holy Spirit?

It means your body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit, a dwelling place of the Most High God. The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, inhabits your human life and gives you power to do what God calls you to do.

It also means you receive His seal of ownership and redemption, that you belong to God and are secure in Him. The Holy Spirit’s seal on you is God’s promise to you that full salvation—justification (past), sanctification (present and ongoing), and glorification (future)—is coming. In other words, it’s a promise to one day be in glory with the Lord.

Q: Who can receive the gifts of the Spirit, and what is their purpose?

A: Gifts of the Spirit are given to every believer who accepts Christ as Lord and Savior. These spiritual gifts aren’t reserved only for the “most worthy” Christians. The Holy Spirit distributes them to every Christian—and we don’t all get the same ones. These supernatural gifts from God are given to promote unity and to strengthen the Church to fulfill its purpose to make Jesus known to the world!

Do you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed? Defeated? Discouraged? Ready to throw in the towel? As women, I think all too often we can experience these emotions. Life is busy and we are pulled in so many directions, wear so many hats.

I have learned in my life that when I start feeling this way, it’s because I have taken back control of my life. I am NOT allowing the Holy Spirit to be in control.

And here’s the truth: I am simply NOT equipped to be in control! I need His power flowing through me to lead and guide my every decision—not just the big ones!

If I am going to fulfill God’s purposes for my life, I must yield to His Spirit and allow Him to love through me, parent through me, forgive through me, respect my husband through me. My flesh SCREAMS out against this surrender! But going my way always leads to misery.

Matthew 11: 28–30 tells us:

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ALL of you, take up MY yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for yourselves. For MY yoke is easy and MY burden is light.”

May you be encouraged today to look to the Lord to ease your burden and bring rest to your soul as you yield control of your life to His Holy Spirit every day.

RealNewsWeb_SPRING22_JEFFDear Friend,

God has a plan and a purpose for you as a Christian—to know Jesus and make Him known. And to equip you to fulfill this purpose, He’s given you something truly amazing …

His Holy Spirit to dwell within you. But who is the Holy Spirit, and what does He do?

The Bible clearly teaches that the Holy Spirit is not a force, a ghost, or some kind of nebulous power source. He’s the third member of the Trinity. He has a mind, a will, and emotions. He’s a person! And as a person, there are certain things that the Holy Spirit does.

The Holy Spirit gives you power to know Jesus and make Him known. He empowers every believer for that purpose by giving spiritual gifts intended to strengthen and bring unity to the Church, the body of Christ.

That’s the Holy Spirit in a nutshell.

My prayer is that you’ll get to really know the Holy Spirit who lives within you as a believer, and that you’ll live in the power He gives to pursue the purpose God has for your life.

Love,

Jeff's_Signature

It’s such a blessing when we receive notes from people whose lives have been touched by the ministry of From His Heart. And the truth is that each of these notes tell a story of the incredible impact ministry partners like you are making on the lives of our listeners and viewers.

Your support is helping us reach people at every point in their journey of faith, encouraging them to find spiritual nourishment with real truth from God’s Word. People like Jesse, who writes …

“Hello Pastor Jeff. I just wanted to mention to you that I truly enjoy your sermons. My wife and I are new born-again Christians.

“Since I found the Lord—or as I prefer to say, He rescued me—I need more than just Sunday morning and Wednesday night services. I am so hungry for the Word of God.

“So, thank you for this wonderful nourishment you provide in my young Christian life.

Thank you for your partnership and prayers to help grow people like Jesse and his wife in the things of God. Their story is just one of the many that you make possible—and I’m so grateful.

May God nourish you with His Word as well, empowering you to live out His purpose for you!
