Why am I here? It’s an age-old question that great thinkers and philosophers have debated for centuries. In general, there are two kinds of wrong answer the world offers to this profound question.
The first is that you’re simply here by chance. You’re just a byproduct of the evolutionary process with no greater significance or meaning.
The second wrong answer is that the point of your life is simply to enjoy yourself. That’s not a new idea. In fact, the godless hedonism of our day echoes that of Isaiah’s day, when the people said, “Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die!” (Isaiah 22:13).
As a follower of Jesus Christ, you know that both these answers are blatantly wrong. Instead, Scripture makes it crystal clear why you and I exist at all:
“Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth, everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory …” (Isaiah 43:6-7).
Yes, the reason you’re here … the reason you exist … the reason God is giving you each breath even as you read these words … is for His glory!
This is your ultimate purpose: to bring God glory. And here are two ways it plays out in your life and mine.
First, you bring God glory by loving Him. And that’s only possible when you begin to grasp just how much He loves you! As 1 John 4:19 says, “We love, because He first loved us.”
Second, you bring God glory by letting your light shine. As you become aware of God’s incomparable love for you, that love will overflow from you towards others, so that people “may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
I pray that you’ll continue to grow in your understanding of your life’s purpose—so you can live each day with eternal significance. To God be the glory!

Q&A with Pastor Jeff
Q: Pastor Jeff, I want to live all out for Jesus, but I just feel so weighed down by past sins. How can I move forward in my faith?
A: The first step toward living for God’s glory is repentance. Like the prodigal son in Jesus’ parable in Luke 15, you need to make the decision to turn away from your sinful past (and present?) and head home to your Father. Remember, He’s not waiting to pounce on you or condemn you but to embrace you, restore you, and rejoice over you! You’ll move forward in your faith once you learn to rest in the extravagant grace of the Father rather than remaining in the squalor of your sin and self-centeredness.
Q: I feel like I have no direction in my life. How do I know what God’s purpose is for me?
A: The Bible doesn’t give you a minute-by-minute plan for your life or specific answers to the manifold dilemmas you face. Instead, God’s Word gives this broad principle to follow: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Make it your priority to glorify God each day in the place He’s put you by living surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When you are yielding your will to His will, you can be sure you’re living in line with His will!

It’s easy to drift through life with no real focus. So many people—including many Christians—draw their breath and draw their salary, all the while failing to see that their lives have eternal significance.
Surely, a purposeless life is not the life God intends for you. Instead, He wants you to know the joy that comes by living every day in the light of eternity.
This is the real truth I want you to grasp through my Living on Purpose series—which comes as my thanks for your gift.
And right when you give, I’ll also send you my ABC’s of the Christian Life booklet. I pray they help you make each day count for eternity. Thank you for your gift to help others find God’s purpose for their lives too!

I think we would all agree that God loves people. As the childrens’ song goes, “Red and yellow, black and white…they are precious in His sight.” But have you ever struggled with bringing that message home and knowing that God loves YOU?
All too often we find it hard to believe that God really loves us because we know what we’re like! Perhaps you’re so aware of your past sins and current failings that deep down you really struggle with believing that God loves you.
Friend, doubting God’s love is a dangerous place to be. It can leave us cold-hearted, serving Him out of a sense of duty and obligation.
But the real truth is that God loves you beyond what you can even imagine, whether you feel it or not!
That’s why you and I need to immerse ourselves in the promises of God’s Word so that it’s His truth that guides us and not our own feelings.
Here are a few verses to get you started…
- John 3:16
- Romans 5:8,
- Romans 8: 35-39
- 1 John 3:1
Take hold of these promises today and they’ll transform you, filling your heart with purpose and joy!

There’s a hymn I love to sing that goes,
“All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him, trust Him, in His presence daily live.”
But I have a confession to make. If I’m totally honest, sometimes my heart wants to sing, “Almost all to Jesus I surrender …” There are times when I want to do what I want to do.
My guess is you’re the same.
But here’s the thing. If you and I want to bring God glory and live in line with His purposes, then we really do need to surrender all to Him. Here are three good reasons why you can do that with total confidence.
First, He is all-knowing. God sees everything in our lives from beginning to end. He knows the paths we should take.
Second, He is almighty. His power knows no limits. There’s nothing He cannot do. He sits on the throne and rules the universe.
Third, He is all loving. His great love reminds us that His will is best for our lives. We can trust Him to lead us in the right paths of life because of His love for us. Surely, the God who loves us enough to die for us on the cross is worthy to be followed without reservation.
Therefore, in the words of the apostle Paul, “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).
I pray you’ll grow in your readiness to surrender all to Jesus as you meditate on these
