  • Conditional Promises

04/21/2020 A tremendous promise was given to a man named Jeroboam, the first king of the divided kingdom called Israel. Jeroboam could have been a great king, but tragically he was a great bust. He had the promise of God for a life of blessing and an enduring throne, but he refused to walk by faith. He operated out of fear, and his sin of pride, paranoia, and gross idolatry led to his destruction. Continue reading…

  • First Things First

04/20/2020 Do you struggle with priorities? It is interesting to me that when people are on their deathbed, they never talk about how they wished they had worked harder on the job or climbed higher on the ladder of success. No. What they talk about is relationships. They wish they had lived for the Lord and spent more time with their family and friends. Be totally honest: are you trading the eternal things that really matter for the temporal things that don’t? Continue reading…

  • Got Discipline?

04/17/2020 In 1 Timothy 4:7, Paul told Timothy, “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.” If you’re like me, you struggle with discipline. Honestly, my spirit is willing, but my flesh is so weak. My flesh would rather watch TV than read my Bible … surf the web than pray … scroll through Facebook than memorize Scripture. But I know if I give in to the flesh, I’ll be a spiritual UNDER-achiever. I need discipline to rise above. Continue reading…

  • Heart Problems?

04/16/2020 Do you remember the basketball great “Pistol” Pete Maravich? He was an incredible player. The things he could do with a basketball left fans shaking their heads in disbelief. At the relatively young age of forty, Pistol Pete was playing basketball with some friends and dropped dead. The cause of death was a rare heart defect. Although he was seemingly in great shape, his heart was not. So many Christians are walking around with the same problem … serious heart issues. Continue reading…

  • Are You a Scarcity Thinker?

04/15/2020 Did you know that many Christians are scarcity thinkers? They tend to dream small, plan small and pray small because they live in the land of little, the land of lack, and the land of barely enough. They tend to hoard the resources and blessings God has given them, because they erroneously believe there may not be any more coming their way. Continue reading…

  • Enthusiasm Anyone?

04/14/2020 Jesus Christ is in the life-changing business. Anyone who truly knows the Lord has experienced the greatest gift of all, and that’s the gift of eternal life. And those who have been saved by God’s amazing grace have the Holy Spirit living inside. Hey, should we not be the most excited and enthusiastic people on the planet? Of course, we should! God wants you and me to seek Him and be excited in the search! Continue reading…

  • Better Things

04/13/2020 You know, the beautiful thing about the Christian life is the hope that we have in Jesus. He promises better things ahead for us each and every day as we trust Him. One of my favorite verses is Romans 15:13: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Continue reading…

  • Burning the Wick or Burning the Oil?

04/10/2020 I once heard a very well-known pastor say that ministry was “so incredibly hard.” He was worn out under the weight of it all. And I wondered if this pastor was maybe unknowingly burning the wick instead of burning the oil. You see, when you light a wax candle, the wax begins to melt and the candle consumes itself as it burns. But, you see, an oil-powered lamp is entirely different. Continue reading…

  • Life Indeed

04/9/2020 In 1 Timothy chapter 6, the apostle Paul talked about taking hold of “that which is life indeed.” Life indeed is a life that is filled with joy and peace and excitement as we walk with the King. 1 Timothy 6 gives us five key steps to take to experience life the way God intended. Continue reading…

  • Going Up?

04/8/2020 Some time ago, my wife and I were traveling home from an out of town marriage conference. On the flight back to Texas, our plane had a little trouble getting off the ground. I started to wonder, “Are we ever going up?” Have you ever wondered that in the Christian life? Continue reading…
